Fleece, fiber, crimp, staple length, luster, consistency, brightness, micron count, coefficient of variation, penciling, deep bold crimp, crimps per inch, etc. These are just some of the terms that we use to discuss alpaca fiber. What does it all mean? This can be a subject that is very confusing to all of us in the alpaca community whether we are new or have been in the business for many years. Everyone at Magical Farms has been learning for years and there is still so much more to know! We would like to continue studying and share what we have learned so far with prospective purchasers, breeders, and anyone interested in this beautiful resource. To that end, we have just finished the construction of our new FIBER ROOM, and we are extremely excited about this facility.

The show piece of the room is a specially constructed oak table with training sessions in mind -- a 12 foot long, counter-height table with wooden rollers in the center so fleeces can be easily rolled from one person to the next without damage. We can seat 14 people around the table at any one time, and the discussion is sure to be lively! We hope that this is the first of many training centers across the country to help us all understand more about these beautiful creatures that we so love, the alpaca.
